Types of Communities
Did you know there are three types of communities? Urban, Suburban and Rural. In this lesson, you will explore the similarities and differences amongst these types of communities so you are able to clearly identify each.
First, visit this website. Using the map key, identify each type of community on the interactive community map. How are these different types of communities similar? How are they different? What type of community do you live in? If you have time, feel free to work through the activities following the map, but for this assignment you will be completing a different assignment with the use of the map.
After you have studied each type of community and have considered the questions above, use Kidspiration to create a venn diagram about the similarities and difference that you notice. You can also put your thinking down on paper using this venn diagram.
Next, choose a type of community; urban, suburban or rural. Using this website, build your community. Print your community and on the back (or a separate sheet of paper), write an explanation including three reasons your community is urban, suburban or rural.
Then, please move onto the next lesson, Community Workers.
